Program expression metatools easily from within the Expression Selection dialog box. Simply choose the expression slot, then hold down shift and press a number or letter key to assign the metatool keyboard shortcut.

Finale documents display in Page View by default, ripe with new multi-page viewing and editing features. You can change the default View if you like by clicking the Program Options button to the left. Then, on the New page, select the desired view.

Staff lists are no longer assigned to each expression. Instead, expressions inherit the staff list of their category, which allows you to change the staff assignment to all expressions of a particular type simultaneously.

To change the attachment point of an expression to a different staff, drag it over the target staff.

Finale includes a library of new Tapspace Virtual Drumline Sounds. Choose the Tapspace Drumline instrument set in the Document Setup Wizard to easily start a new drumline score.

Your copy of Finale can be authorized on two computers simultaneously. However, with an Internet connection, authorization can be moved from one computer to another at will. Simply choose Deauthorize Finale from the Help Menu to open up a free slot. Your copy of Finale can now be authorized on a different computer.

Select a measure "stack" to copy and paste/insert key signatures and other measure settings. A stack selection includes full measures in all staves. Look in the User Manual under "Selecting music" for details.

While copying stacks, a green border (pasting) or insertion bar (inserting) indicates an eligible target. Stack copying allows you to copy and paste/insert measure settings such as Time Signatures, Key Signatures, Barline Styles and Repeats.

Selection tool metatools 6 through 9 can be programmed to any transposition you wish. To do so, hold down Ctrl/Command-Shift then press one of the numbers. To apply: select a region with the Selection Tool, then press the number.

Combine scores quickly and easily using ScoreMerger (under the File Menu). Combine them horizontally if you are merging multiple movements, or vertically if you are merging parts into a full score.

Hold down Shift and press the End key to extend selection to the end of the piece. Use Shift-Home, Page Up, or Page Down to extend selection to the beginning, top staff, or bottom staff respectively.

To add an audio track to your document, from the MIDI/Audio Menu, choose Audio Track > Add Audio Track. Then choose MIDI/Audio Menu > Audio Track > Load Audio.

Document Styles are collections of libraries and document settings that can be applied to any new file using the Setup Wizard. Choose one of Finale's included styles on page 1 of the Setup Wizard. To add linked parts to old documents, from the File Menu, choose Manage Parts. Then, click Generate Parts.

To reestablish a broken link, context-click it in the part and choose Relink to Score.

The positioning and show/hide settings of a marking are independent with regards to linked parts. If you move an expression in a part, the positioning link is broken, but the show/hide link is still intact.

In the Print dialog box you can print any combination of the score and parts simultaneously, and specify a number of copies for each.

To beam eighth notes in groups of 2 instead of 4 in common time, choose the Document Menu, then Document Options. Select Beams from the list on the left, uncheck Beam Four Eighth Notes Together in Common Time and click OK.

When writing to picture, use the "Time" measure number style to reference the elapsed time at each measure. To do so, choose the Measure Tool, then from the Measure Menu, choose Edit Measure Number Regions. Add a region defined to show on the desired measures, and then from the Style Menu, choose Time.

Edit multiple groups simultaneously in optimized scores using the Update Groups and Brackets plug-in.

Create or customize linked parts at any time using the Manage Parts dialog box under the Document Menu. You might even elect to wait until the score is complete before generating linked parts.

Easily navigate through linked parts using keystrokes. Windows users hold down Ctrl-Alt, Mac users, command and option, and press > to move forward, or < to move backwards through parts.

To quickly change an existing expression, select the expression?s handle and double-press the desired metatool key. Or, hold down the desired metatool and click the expression?s handle. The expression changes to the definition assigned to the metatool key you used.

Use the new Instrument Techniques and Effects window in the Human Playback Preferences dialog box for even more control over Human Playback's interpretation of the score, or to optimize playback for a particular sample library.
