Kirkley, to the south of the

Sparrows Nest Gardens is

town’s history during the World

they form a striking centrepiece
to the seafront area, providing
play for children of all ages and
an illuminated spectacle during
the evenings.
The beaches are backed by a
long promenade, lined with
beach huts, cafes, gardens, crazy
golf, putting green and a small
boating lake.
The towns two piers provide a
mixture of entertainment and
catering facilities and those
wishing to view the coastline
and watch ships enter the
harbour will enjoy the view from
the end of the South Pier,
alongside viewing the vessels
on adjacent Heritage Quay.
A vast range of services can be
found along the seafront
including cafes, pubs and wine
bars, restaurants and a fresh
seafood stand. Flying Fifteens, an
award winning teashop, provides
one of the most unique
experiences on the seafront with
its choice of over 50 types of tea.
Lowestoft offers three distinct
shopping areas, each with its
own unique shopping experience
with events throughout the year.
The main town centre provides a
choice of national high street
retailers and adjacent to the
town centre is the Britten Centre,

point of the British coast,
Lowestoft, once a small fishing

beaches, pleasant seaside &

links to the Broads
National Park, Lowestoft

Renowned for the
quality of its golden
sands, the North and
South of Claremont
Pier beaches are considered to
be some of the very best in
Europe, both currently holding
an ENCAMS Blue Flag Award.
Patrolled by lifeguards
throughout the summer, they
provide a safe haven for
enjoying a variety of beach
activities and water sports.
The seafront area has
recently undergone major
regeneration, the
highlight of which is the
Princess Royal Fountains
on Royal Plain.
Consisting of 74
individual and
interactive water jets,
town gives a glimpse into the
town’s rich heritage, with old
Merchant Houses and ‘Scores’,
which were the original
pathways leading down to the
old fishing village.
One of the most popular areas
of old Lowestoft is Belle Vue Park
and Sparrows Nest Gardens. Over
looking the Suffolk coastline, this
area of the town provides a link
between the old and the new.
The look-out point at the Naval
Memorial in Belle Vue Park offers
panoramic views of the coast
including ‘Gulliver’, the largest
onshore wind turbine, which
towers 126 metres above the
volunteers brimming with
knowledge of times past. The
East Suffolk Maritime Museum is
part of the National Museums
Accreditation Scheme and it
looks back at the town’s rich
maritime heritage and history
with the sea.
East Anglia Transport
Museum is a unique project
encompassing a fully working
museum of public and private
transport of bygone days,
run entirely by volunteers:
ride on vintage trams, or
explore the comprehensive
collection of buses, cars and
period artefacts.

Marina Theatre. The
theatre has attracted acts
such as Ken Dodd and Lee
Evans as well as National
Opera, ballet & musicals
and is also the eastern
region residency of the
Royal Philharmonic
Orchestra. The local
cinema also screens all the
new release films.
Those looking to be a
little more active may
wish to follow the
Suffolk Coasts and
Heaths path that starts
from Lowestoft, heading
50 miles along the
Suffolk Coast and
finishing at Felixstowe.
You will also find leisure
centres, golf courses,
ten-pin bowling, tennis
courts and indoor
children’s play areas in
and around the town.
Lowestoft offers a wide

whatever your tastes

to a full dining experience:
