Know Your Place!

Some years ago I was asked to make 50 place
cards for a dinner. Since then, I have made hundreds
for various occasions and last year I made 135 place
cards for the Centenary celebrations of British Petro-
leum. They were all made in the company colours of
green and yellow and all were different designs (I’m
not sure how I managed that)!
MATERIALS REQUIRED:
3mm Quilling Paper and Quilling Tool.
Scraps of any Coloured Paper.
Small Beads and Sticker Dots.
Small Heart Punch.
Peel Off Stickers : XL500U-01 & -02 Borders.
Card Mounts: SF05U-30 Smooth White.
try drawing brown lines on cream paper for a similar
effect and fill using some of the shapes shown.
Thomas: The little bells are made in the same way
as the larger ones but using only a short length of
paper. Glue a blue seed bead inside for the clapper.
The flower centre is a small rose.
Daniel: Adding an extra border to the top corner
frames the flowers nicely. Crossing over at the corner
gives it a kind of arch or trellis look. A paper punched
butterfly balances it out.
Below is a selection of the shapes I’ve used for
these cards, along with instructions for the spiral
flowers and bells.
TO MAKE THE CARD:
There are just a couple of rules that apply to this
whole set of place cards: I like to use white as it sets
off the work well and gives a clean, crisp look and I
like a sticker border set in from the edge of the card.
Take care to get this straight with neat corners though
or it will detract instead of complement.
All the blue and white mix pieces are made from
envelopes with patterns inside, you can of course
use any paper for these and change any of the
colours to suit the occasion.
Louise (top): This simple flower is made from tear-
drop petals, the centre peg on top of the petals adds
a nice dimension and the little gold sticker dots look
pretty scattered above the flower.
Lillie: Use a full length strip for the bells, wind to
a tight peg, glue the end then gently press out the
centre with a blunt pencil or similar. I have used a
bead for the clapper in each. The spiral rose is made
from the inside of an envelope.
Catherine: The basket is simply a little piece of
printed paper, if you do not have anything like this
