Diagnostic functions of modern vehicles are more complex today
than ever before. Not only the functionality already contained in
the ECU have to be able to be diagnosed; other functionalities
which are added during the lifetime of an ECU, e.g. due to addi-
tional variants, maintenance measures or function extensions,
have to be able to be diagnosed, too. The necessary specifica-
tions for the diagnostic functions can only be created, extended
and maintained efficiently if authoring tools are used.
Advantages of DTS-Venice
Task-Oriented User Interface
DTS-Venice contains a task-oriented layer model, the “4-layer
model”. It enables the user to have different views of diagnostic
specifications. The complexity of the data model is reduced
to layers which are easy to process (group specification, model
range, ECU, function class). Only the information released for
one layer is displayed at any one time. Descriptions which have
been defined in superordinate layers can be used and extend-
ed. In addition, the description of the communication of the rele-
vant layer is made much easier thanks to task-oriented wizards.
ECU-View: ECU and variants are shown clearly in the user’s language
Early Fault Recognition
Early and consistent fault recognition is essential for the quality
of vehicle communication. DTS-Venice checks the following:
Conformity to specifications
– legislator (e.g. OBD), ISO standards, group specification
Database integrity
– verification of the communication from the vehicle,
subsystem and ECU point of view
Verification of the specification
– simulation of ECU behavior
– avoiding errors by verifying before implementation
Minimum Amount of Integration
The layer model makes it possible to view ECUs, subsystems
and the entire vehicle system. The Expert-View of DTS-Venice
supports system integration and verification. This view represents
links of ECUs with the superordinate model range descriptions
and group regulations.
An Overview of Features
The “4-layer model” maps the view to the group
specifications, vehicle model range, ECU and ECU function
in a task-oriented manner
Suppliers can verify the conformity of their ECU descriptions with
the regulations of the automobile manufacturer. The approval
process is thus improved and shortened. Subsequent process
steps at the OEM benefit from the supplier’s conformity check.

Fast results thanks to sensible pre-definition and automatic
generation of the data structure from very little basic
information
Simple integration into existing process landscapes with
open interfaces
Reuse of existing information with a wide range of import

ASAM standards. The training program is constantly adapted
