Magnetic lasso

Polygonal Lasso

Lasso

·         Quick selection – it contains only 2 tools; magic wand which select similar pixels and quick selection which allows you to select chosen part of the picture. Size of quick selection depends on brush size and it will also select similar pixels around.

Quick Selection

Magic wand

History Brush - This tool allows you to back the picture to original state.

And everything is just using healing brush.

Healing tool also include some other useful functions such as red eyes tool and a patch tool which allows you to import one part of the picture from another place. Now I’ll remove this plum under the eye using the patch tool.

This looks much better now and almost can’t see difference between normal skin.

Clone stamp  - this tool allows me to clone an eye and put it on forehead but it can be also used to delete logos or different marks. To take a sample of part of the picture in this case an eye, hold the alt key and right mouse click.  Now you can move an eye to forehead.

When you click then you’ll put this eye onto forehead.

Corel is also creating a lot of different software such as office suite, design, video editing and digital imaging.

Gimp

Gimp -General Image Manipulation Program was first release for a student project created by Spencer Kimball and Peter Mattis. They has putted GNU license for this and software has become open source. Today they are not developing this software but groups of users. Every user who knows something about programming can develop this software. They are doing everything for free and they are groups of volunteers who wants spend their own time to develop this software. They are doing great job for others users for who Photoshop or CorelDRAW are too expensive. People could say that Photoshop is the market leader, this is particularly true; Photoshop is leader of the commercial market if we include also Open Source software then gimp will be the leader. People are using Photoshop because their companies pay for it and they must use it, they can’t use Gimp because Gimp can’t be used for commercial things.  Gimps doesn’t include only standard installation packet. Gimp has many patches which makes it more like Photoshop e.g. CMYK patch. Gimp is working with RGB but you can download CMYK patch.  Next plus for gimp is that most Photoshop’s tutorials will work with it. Gimp also is created for all popular operating systems; you can use it on linux, mac and windows.

Gimp also needed less system resources than Photoshop or CorelDRAW e.g.

Hard Disk space: 20 MB

RAM: 128 MB

Gimp is very portable; you can install it on your pen-drive and take it away and you can open and edit Photoshop’s files.

Summary: Photoshop is commercial software used for commercial purpose.

Gimp: Open source software for non-commercial purpose i.e. home users, computer graphics artist and people starting their “adventure” with computer graphics.
